What's IT all about?

This week in class we are discussing simulations, and I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I'm not so sure how I feel about them.

On one hand, I think it is awesome the things simulations are allowing kids to do....driving, dissecting, looking at the stars...but honestly, I'm beginning to think that kids are spending too much time in front of computers and not experiencing things "for real" (I know, I know....this is coming from a distance student taking courses online). But, kids spend so much of their free time on computers, I don't like the fact that we keep coming up with more and more ways to sit them there during the school day as well.

Let me tell 'ya, sometimes I miss the old days of construction paper and markers....

Does anyone else feel this way?

I agree some kids spend too much time with technology, but think simulations can be a good thing if used as an additional tool. I think, just like any instructional tool, too much of any one thing is not good. We also need to expose children to the technology available so they will be prepared for the technology they will encounter in the real world.
